My name is Mer (Mercedes) Almagro Frades, and I especialized in vitreous enamel
in the Llotja Arts & Crafts
school of Barcelona. I want to mention here my teachers Núria López-Ribalta and Andreu Vilasís
who taught me so much and towards whom I am most grateful, they are wonderful people
and like family to me.
I also studied jewellery techniques in the Escola d'ART del Treball in the same city, and a host of
other techniques in differend disciplines during various courses, that help me round
up my work.
I have worked professionally as an enameller in the workshops of Elisa Méndez
& Bagués
- Masriera. Check the websites, they are cool ;) if you happen to visit Barcelona, check the store in Passeig de Gràcia, amazing historical building too!
When I moved to Belgium in 2005 my life took on a 180° turn. I no longer enamel
for a living, at this moment enamel is a tool for the developement of my own creativity.
I took up knitting in March 2009 to keep busy during commuting trips on the train,
quickly getting addicted to it, and started designing my own patterns shortly thereafter.
